Comrade Joe Ajaero was born on December 17, 1964 to the family Mr.& Mrs. Philip Ajaero of Azaraowalla Emekuku, Owerri, Imo State.

Comrade Joe Ajaero got his First School Leaving Certificate in 1978 from Ezelukwu Primary School Emekuku Owerri, Senior Secondary School Certificate from Emii Secondary Technical School, Emii Owerri in 1984.  The National Certificate in Education (NCE) from Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri in 1988 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 1990.  He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Times Journalism Institute Lagos in 1994.  In 1998, he obtained a Masters Degree in Industrial and Labour Relations, from the University of Lagos. He holds a Certificate in Advanced Tariff Structuring and Subsidy Design Options: 1P3: Cape Town South Africa.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, is an Alumnai of the prestigious International Labour Organisation, Labour Training Institute, Turin, Italy.

He is also an Alumnai of East and South African Management Institute and holds a Certificate from Harvard Business School.

He is currently completing a Law Programme at Base University Abuja for the award of L.L.B.

POSITIONS/POSTS HELD

Comrade Joe Ajaero was one time Social Prefect of Emii Secondary Technical School, Emii Owerri. He was Public Relations Officer Students Union, Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, and a two time member of the Students Representative Council (SRC), the parliament representing the students on campus.

He was the Secretary/Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ Vanguard Chapter and Lagos State Executive Council Member NUJ. He was National Ex-Officio NUJ – 1997 – 1999 and Member Central Working Committee and National Executive Council NUJ, 1997 – 1999.

WORKING EXPERIENCE

He was the Research Officer One Mechanized Infantry Division Nigerian Army Kaduna 1990 – 1991 (NYSC).

He worked as the Reporter, Correspondent and Assistant News Editor – Vanguard Newspapers 1992 – 2001.

He Headed the Training/Information Department of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) 2001 – 2005.   And was appointed the General Secretary – National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) in 2005. 

GENERAL

Comrade Joe Ajaero, whose life has been conditioned by activism, is a Human Rights Activist, fearless Journalist and consummate Trade Unionist.  Consequently, he was arrested and detained by the Abacha Military Junta in the company of other human rights activists like Femi Falana.  This did not deter him as he fought on until the Military left office.

Also, Comrade Ajaero has been turbaned Maga Yaki by the workers in the Caliphate – Sokoto and has the title of Sarkin Yaki from Kano and Kaduna, Electricity Workers.

Comrade Ajaero served in the Presidential Committee on Power Sector Reforms, set up by President Umaru Ya’Adua.

He is the Titular Substitute representing English speaking East & West Africa in the Global Union Federation Public Service International (PSI) representing workers in 150 countries of the world, November 2012 to date.

Ajaero was a Board member of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF)

He was a Delegate at the 2014 National Conference, in Nigeria.

He is the current Board Chairman of the Labour City Transport Service Ltd

A Board Member of the Trust Fund Pensions Ltd.
