On the 7th and 8th of October 2024, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) in collaboration with the Fredrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) organized a two day capacity building workshop, THEME: Developing Trade Union Narratives in the 21st Century; Building Effective Communication and Leadership skills. The workshop took place at Denis Hotel Wuse II, Abuja.
The training hits its record as rank and files from the union leadership graced the gathering; it drew in attendance the number one worker of the federation, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress Cmde Joe Ajaero, the president of NUEE Cdme Adeyeye Adebiyi, Ag. general secretary Cdme Dominic Igwebike and the country program director Mrs Remi Ihejirika of the FES.
Participants were women leaders from the 36 states including the federal capital territory, national youth leader committee excos and their zonal youth coordinators from the 6 geopolitical zones of the federation.
The training which was not limited to its theme, rather incorporated topics such as Leveraging on Organizing and Activism for Trade union growth, Empowering Women in Trade union Leadership and also Youth Engagement and Activism in Trade union. Furthermore, an introduction to climate change and just transition was highlighted. The training wouldn’t have been completed without the history of NUEE, how the union overcame her challenges and built resilience for the benefit of all.
